''Our Products Can Compete With Italian Products'' - NSUK Bag Makers (Photos)

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has truly proven herself to be a home and a breeding ground for intellectuals, with students that are blessed in both academic and entrepreneurship excellence. On this chit-chat with D.U.Blog is the duo of Kingsley Igube and Cordelia Doji both finally year students of Public Administration Department in Nasarawa State University, whose immense talent in Ankara/Leather bag making, shoe making and lots more is extremely mind blowing.

How did this craft begin for you?

Kingsley:
I started this craft in the year 2010, a year before I got admission into school.

Cordelia: I started mine in 2011, in school here.

How long have you two been in the business together?
Together we started in 2013.

How do you get materials for your work?

A large amount of our materials are gotten locally. We get our materials from Kano, Kaduna and even in Nyanya.

Who are your customers?

Our customers are basically people that are in love with customized shoes and bags both young and old.

Do you have dedicated customers who patronize your products??

(Both) Yes we do!

What kind of products do you make and what do you charge for them?

We make ankara and leather bags, Slippers, cover shoes, sandals, casuals and customized shoes among others. Most of our prices are determined by the choice of materials and design.

How lucrative is this business??

(Both Laughs!) Its a very lucrative business, infact absolutely lucrative. This craft has helped us in paying our bills.

What does it take for a beginner to delve into your kind of business?

It takes a lot of passion, determination and tenacity for a beginner to venture into this business.

What other activities do you both engage in apart from this?
We train students in entrepreneurship class in Nasarawa State University on the craft.

How then do you both combine your academics and the business?
Kingsley: We try as much as possible to create time for everything!

Cordelia: Time planning is all that matters, we most times do it on our leisures or lecture free time.

Where do you both see your craft in few years time??

Kingsley: I see our crafts competing with Italian products.

Cordelia: In few years time, I see our craft rubbing shoulders with the likes of Gucci and Louis Vuitton

What advice do you both have for unemployed youths who insist on white collar jobs?

Kingsley: My advice to the unemployed youths is that they should learn a trade; they should acquire a skill in order not to wait for jobs that are not there.

Cordelia: Yeah! That's true. Just a skill can change the story of your life for the better.
