Court Jails Teenager For Stealing Mattress In Osun

An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 19-year-old man, Kabiru Abdulahi, to six months’ imprisonment for stealing a mattress worth about N8,000.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Abiodun Fagboyin, told the court that the offence committed by the teenager was contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code,
Law of Osun State.

Abdulahi, who was arraigned before the magistrate, Olusola Aluko, pleaded guilty to one count of stealing. He burst into tears and told the court that he thought the mattress had been thrown out.

Aluko, however, gave Abdulahi an option of N5,000 fine. The convict, who could not pay the fine, continued to cry for mercy.

The convict was, however, lucky as a man passing by heard his cry and paid the fine. Abdulahi was released after the fine had been paid.

Meanwhile, a housewife, Kafilat Mukaila, has accused her husband, Olaoye, of attempting to strangule her before the Osogbo Customary Court.

She told the court that her husband stalked her, beat her up and did not show her love at all. But the husband denied the allegations.

He told the court that he stopped beating his wife since May, 2015.
