Nassarawa And Benue State To End Cattle Rearers, Farmers’ Clash

Nassarawa State Governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, on Friday visited President Muhammadu Buhari to intimate him of efforts being made by his state and neighbouring Benue State to end the incessant clashes of farmers and cattle rearers in their borders.

Speaking with State House correspondents after meeting the President, Al-Makura said he was cooperating with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State to put a stop to the bloody clashes.

He said Ortom had on Wednesday led a delegation to meet with him on the issue.

He said, “I am here (in the Presidential Villa) to update the President on matters concerning Nasarawa State, including the efforts to resolve frequent farmers/herders clashes involving it and neighbouring Benue State.

”We made some headways yesterday (Thursday) when Benue State governor led a delegation to meet with me in Nasarawa to discuss measures towards stemming the frequent conflicts.”

Al-Makura disclosed that a decision had been reached to set up a joint committee that will profer solutions to the crisis.

On the recent Supreme Court verdict that upheld his election, the governor said he was not surprised because he
won a free and fair election.

He said the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the state only exists in the imagination of its governorship candidate and former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku.

He confirmed that a single case of Lassa Fever had been confirmed in the state with the patient properly
quarantined.

The governor said the state medical team was on top of the situation.

He also disclosed that Buhari would soon be invited to commission the ultra-modern Karu International Market in the state.

While saying that the market was meant to boost the revenue base of the state government, Al-Makura said the
dwindling allocations from the federal coffers underscored the importance of putting to use the market.
