"My Journey Into Music Has Been Tough" - Olamisamz Speaks Out

D.U.Blog had an exclusive interview with music act, Yakubu Esson Samuel (Y.E.S) also known as Olamisamz. Olamisamz is arguably one of the fast rising music acts in Nigeria, whose singing prowess has garnered a lot of accolade for him. The talented music act who dropped his hit single "Baddest" speaks with D.U.Blog on his journey into music, childhood experiences, relationship and next his project.

Tell us about yourself, your background and state of origin?

Am Yakubu Esson Samuel (YES) popularly known as Olamisamz, from Nasarawa state in Nigeria, but I was born in Ogun state and grew up there, which is why I am very fluent in Yoruba language, I am the second of five children. Am a Mass communication student in Nasarawa state University Keffi.

At what age did u discover you had passion and talent for music?

I discovered my musical talent when i was in junior secondary school 3, as a beat maker for a friend back then in school, later I went on to become a studio rat by senior secondary school 1, which was when I recorded the first song I was featured in.

How has the journey into music been for you, rough or smooth?

Rough is a wrong word to compare it. It has been tough most especially the financial aspect. You go to the studio with some amount of money and the producer will say NO its more than that, and there are a lot of competition. So you have to be at your best to bring out the best always.

It is true that there is a lot of competition in the industry, but how do you strive to stay on top of your game? What distinguishes your song from that of other artistes?

I have my style, which is different from that of others. Even when I do mixtapes, I make sure I select something special that looks attractive. But my genre is "Rap" and I sing "Rasta".

Tell us about your relationship, are u engaged or still single?

Lol. I broke up with my girlfriend couple of months ago. So am currently single and searching.

What instigated the breakup between yourself and your girlfriend?

Lol. That's a private issue.

So how have you been coping, been a music star and ladies flocking around you?

I learn to exercise self control and I make them understand my kind of person and I don't take advantage of them.

What are your plans for the future, as regarding your music career?

By the grace of God, the industry needs me and I need the industry too, so I have a goody bag for the industry. Thanks to FOMS entertainment, that is building up my career and by God's Grace, I will drop my album soon.

How then do you combine your academics and shows?

Academic on one hand, music on the other hand. You must be passionate and determined in whatever you are doing, as that passion and determination would be your driving force. So, I try as much as possible to create time for both.

When next should we expect another single from you?

My next single? That should be a little secret for now, but keep your fingers crossed.
